When I
received the theme of FREEDOM at the beginning of the project, I was instantly
taken by the idea of the quote; "Freedom Is a State Of Mind". So this
idea lead me to make an idea of a bird in a cage with an open door with a bird whom stays in the cage as he
still thinks that he's trapped. For my research I started a Pintrest bored called
"MFP". This stands for Major Final Project. On this board I pin many
images of freedom quotes and images of things that resembles freedom. One I
found my initial idea for the project I looked more into one artist in
particular; Charlotte Miller, a ceramic artist who specialise in buggies. For the
theme of freedom I looked mainly at emotional and physical freedom on a person
which can affect them deeply in many ways. I also looked at the metaphor of
birds being the freest animal on the planet which is another reason why I chose
this as my final idea. For my research we got given 63 (10cmX10cm square) pages
to use as a mini sketchbook instead of an A5, A4, A3 or even an A2 sketchbook.
For some of my pages I decided to write one quote of freedom on them; on
others, I drew freedom pictures on them. Then I stuck all the ones I had used
onto an A3 page background. Afterwards; I took the remaining ones and also
stuck them onto an A3 page but then drew onto them or even painted onto them
and used letter sponges to write on a freedom quote to fill 12 squares. My
ceramic artist; Charlotte Miller, has her own website and also offers to do
classes so she can tech her skills to others.

On my final piece I have been in
both the wood workshop and the ceramics workshop. So in the wood workshop I
used all kinds of tool and media's during my time in there. Some of the
materials were; MDF, glue, Dowling rods and wire. Some of the tool which was
used was; a tenon saw, a pillar drill, a cross ended screw driver and cross holed
screws etc. In the ceramics workshop I used all different tool compared to the
tools in the wood workshop. These tools I used can be found in your ordinary
household. For example; a rolling pin, a knife and also a wooden rod. Throughout
the project I have used a varied range of media’s and I have applied them in
different ways. The main type of media which I most commonly used was acrylic
paint. I used this on a few research pages to paint in my drawings. I also used
a lot of MDF in my final piece. I chose this material as it is one of the
strongest resources I had you use. As for all of my abilities to draw and make 3D
models, I believe that I have improved my skills compared to the beginning of
the year. I think that my model making skills have developed a great deal more
than my drawing skills. My time management abilities have been well tested in
this final project as all the way though it seems I have been rushed to finish
although I had to do things I have never done before. These tasks include; writing a project
proposal with no practice, do all research by our self’s with no aid, make up
our own help question sheet to assist me in writing this evaluation. I believe it
was not the best of ideas to make me complete these tasks with no support and
no preparation. I think that if I would have had some practice on these tasks beforehand
then I think I could have managed my time a whole lot better. If I was asked to
re-do this project once again the thing I would have done differently are; take
more time with my final idea and also do much more research. In contrast with
my initial idea I think that my final piece has changed due to the fact that another
student had the same idea and her design worked well with that idea better than
mine so I changed the design a little bit. As for the successfulness of the
project considering my final piece, I think that I could have presented the
piece better and made it clearer to understand. I think my final piece is
effective in ways such as; it demonstrates the quote I’m trying to illustrate
and also I a good size for all to see. For my annotations I have written information
about different birds on that research sheet. My overall opinion of this project are; could
have been more planned out on my part, more time could have been given to
ensure a good grade at the end and also, spend more time thinking about what
you want to achieve by the end of the project to best for fill the brief of
standards I have set myself.
